Social Connotation – C30
C30 Social Connotation
Subclass of:
Superclass of:
Scope note:
The Social Connotation class models the integration of an entity into the social representations of a human collective during a given time-span. It provides the entity with a context specific connotation, social quality or characterization: a social collective considers that the adopted connotation, expressed by the propositional content of the collective state of mind, applies to the given entity. The integrated entity can be an actor, a physical or conceptual object, a text, an event, etc. E.g. a celebrated battle is integrated as the founding event of a country's independence into the representations of its indigenous inhabitants, or a portion of them.
The collective view, perspective or interpretation of the entity, i.e. its social connotation conceived as a shared propositional object concerning it, becomes part of the social representations it is integrated into. As a subclass of hist:C27 Collective state of mind the social connotation is at the same time a quality of the concerned entity and of the social collective sharing the related social representation. Thus it establishes a sort of (intentional) relation between the entity and the collective.
The propositional object providing the connotation or quality of the entity represents the content of the collective state of mind. It is therefore associated to the social quality with the inherited hist:P34 has content property. Furthermore, the hist:P40 has context (is context of) property situates the concerned social quality within the wider context of the social representations it belongs to.
